From an attic room to a well organized logistics operation with international ambitions

Ledlichtdiscounter has developed rapidly in a short period of time. What began with the sale of a few LED panels has grown into a professional organization with a clear product offering, smart processes, and well-defined plans for the future. In conversation with Armando Kolleman, Operational Manager of parent company LCB LED Europe, one thing quickly becomes clear: this growth is no accident.

Clear labels, focused strategy

Ledlichtdiscounter is a webshop for LED lighting and electrical products, targeting consumers and smaller business customers. The brand is part of LCB LED Europe, a company founded in 2017 with a clear mission: to make high-quality LED lighting affordable for everyone. Over the years, multiple webshops and customer groups were added. To maintain clarity, LCB LED Europe now operates under three labels: Ledlichtdiscounter for consumers in the Netherlands and Germany, Fixero for DIY customers and SMEs across Western Europe with a broader range than just lighting, and Ledlichtgroothandel for larger business clients. “By introducing that focus, we create calm and clarity,” says Armando. “For us and for the customer.”

Growing by organizing smarter

That clarity was much needed, as growth was rapid. The company moved from an attic to multiple locations in Almere and will soon relocate to Lelystad. Not just to grow bigger, but to work smarter: less office space, more attention to processes that truly support scalability. “We want to operate more stably and continue growing, without making things unnecessarily complex,” Armando explains. Major investments in software and structure form the foundation; 2026 is set to be the year when everything comes together.

Logistics as a foundation

From the start, logistics played a crucial role. What began with simple order picking evolved alongside the company. New questions arose: how do you process more orders in less time? How do you set up your warehouse efficiently? And how do you ensure logistics doesn’t become a bottleneck? Step by step, the process was improved with warehouse software, scanners, better fitting boxes, and even a machine that reuses old cardboard as packing material.

When shipping becomes complex

One challenge remained: shipping. Especially as Ledlichtdiscounter expanded to serve more countries. Multiple carriers, separate contracts, and different pickup times made the process hard to manage. “You’re constantly switching between shipping partners,” says Armando. “And that takes more energy than it saves.”

The move to QLS

That changed with the partnership with QLS. By consolidating all shipments, the company gained more flexibility, a single pickup moment, and access to multiple shipping methods. But the decisive factor wasn’t just cost savings. “The personal contact makes the difference,” says Armando. “I know exactly who to call and can act quickly if something can be improved.”

Thanks to these short lines of communication, Ledlichtdiscounter can continue improving its service. Customers benefit from faster delivery, more shipping options, and a reliable process. Ordered today, smartly packed, and quickly delivered: at home, at a service point, or in the future via parcel lockers. “We want to make it as easy as possible for the customer,” says Armando. “Freedom of choice without hassle.”

Tips for webshops with growth ambitions

For other webshops looking to scale, he has one clear tip: don’t wait too long to professionalize. Once volumes increase, it pays off to rethink logistics. “Especially if you notice internal bottlenecks, a partner like QLS can bring peace of mind and scalability without you having to be a large company immediately.”

Looking ahead to Lelystad and beyond

The focus is now on the future. From Lelystad, Ledlichtdiscounter wants to continue prioritizing convenience for the customer, a sharper product assortment, and further international growth. Fulfillment for specific countries is also being explored. “Above all, it should create acceleration,” says Armando. “If we find the right balance, we are certainly open to that.”

One thing is clear: Ledlichtdiscounter will continue to evolve not by working harder, but by organizing smarter.
